Nice!

Do you also experience more bacterial blotch on caps when using coir in your casing mix?

Thank you Sir.

So small a percentage of blotch, it doesn't really matter, nor - could I really tell, as I blundered very badly with these trays.

Day before yesterday, while peeking in. I reached behind me for a misting bottle & grabbed one without looking. Then, squeezed the trigger a few times - over the trays, then STOPPED MISTING INSTANTLY. Because, that misting bottle contained white vinigar   :mad2:

I then misted rather heavy, with water, in hopes of offsetting the damage I had stupidly done. So, the minor blotch you see, may have been caused by my mistake. :crazy2:

I have come to the conclusion that coir is fine in a casing mix, as it has a CAC'ing effect, in the right amount. But, IMHO not over 15% coir.

50/50 coir/verm or coir/peat is way to much coir. Or even 33/verm,33/coir, 33/peat. If you don't initiate pinning very rapidly, any casing mix that is 50% coir, is very prone to overlay. Or, weird pinsets.

By weird pinsets, I mean large flower like rhyzo with pins between. The pins develope fast, the large rhyzo adjoining it - doesn't develope pins as fast, the smaller rhyzo, even slower. Which leads to a two or three flush looking situation, in the same tray - at once. Instead of an even pin set, all maturing at the same time.

Below is an example of that. The pins showing now - will develope rapidly. The largest rhyzo next, with the smallest rhyzo last.

he he, ive done something similar but slightly worse (at least your shrooms survived).

while misting my salvia cuttings, i accidentally used the h2o2 bottle (5%), when i cheked in 6hours later, every single one had turned into a small brown scrunch. :nonono: :crying:

I told you you had overlay

Did you fill them tubs up all the way? That would be about 5-6 inches, maybe a little more using the whole 16 quarts right? I use about 7.5 quarts total per one of those tubs..should I fill them up more then half wayish do you think? I may try a few thick ones....

About 10 + quarts sub, 3.5 quarts spawn & one inch casing mixture layer. But, everything came out of large autoclave bags, so the measure was not exact, just eyeballed to acheive near a 30% spawn ratio .

Big trays, good sub, high spawn ratio, good casing layer & optimal conditions = .
With a grocery type scale, you can weigh them any time you want, then use data to judge how much moisture is lost per flush & how much moisture is needed to rehydrate.
