Don't really understand the question. Should you use cakes that have been flushing to make a new casing? No.

The short answer is, yes, you COULD potentially take the cakes that have been flushing and add them to your newly colonized, broken up cakes to add volume.

Problems you may encounter:

Contamination from the spent cakes
Slow growth due to the spent cakes not having any usable nutrients

If I were you, and desperate to get more use out of the spent cakes, I'd dunk, then crumble the spent cakes and use them as SPAWN in a casing, possibly with the new cakes if you so desired.

to clarify, i meant add two small cakes, that already went through a single flush, to 3 brand spankin new cakes, in order to have a larger substrate. i figure after only one flush, it should still be good to go.

Yeah technically you could do that, but it's just not ideal.

Healthy, vigorous cultures are what give you an advantage. Fighting contams, colonizing times, pinning time, etc.. Vitality is the name of the game.

I'd let them live out their existence as cakes.

I would not suggest adding cakes that have fruited to cakes that have not. UNLESS you're mixing with another substrate, like straw or dung. Spent cakes make excellent spawn for dung casings. Otherwise, no, just keep fruiting those cakes and case the new ones.
