A great suprise today
    #402757 - 09/24/01 04:04 PM (23 years, 2 months ago)

How sweet today was... About two weeks ago my roommate and I planted some spores to grow our own shrooms. After about a week and a half we gave up on them as nothing was happening. We decided to leave the jars in the dark until more spores arrived in the mail for our next attempt.

A few minutes ago I went to dump them out during a cleaning of our apartment. To my surprise I looked at the jars and one had started to spread.... I HAVE SHROOMS GROWING!!! WOOHOO!!!

I wish I could think of something more clever to write as a signature.

You mean you have mycellium germinating? That is the first step but according to what you have allready told us you might be waiting awhile for full colonization. What tempurature are they sitting at?

I have no idea what temperature... this is my first time and I am working on a very limited budget... I would say around 70 to 75 degrees F, thats what it usually is in my apartment.

i donno man, that took too long, some of the jars might have sour smell in them, which is bad, but who knows, maybe they dont.

Actually, at that temperature that might not be so slow. See if you can get em up to around 85
Something as simple as sticking em in a box and shining a light on it.

regardless of temp, that still sounds very slow to me. check one of the not growing jars for contams.

That is slow but 70 degrees is well below the optimum level for fast colonization. If it's not a contamination you are seeing, if it is in fact clean mycellium then an increase in temp. will definately speed things up.

I do have one jar that has nothing growing in it, but it smells like utter crap. I assume there is something that isnt good for shrooms in that one, but the one that is growing has no abnormal colors and no bad odor, I turned the temp up and I will see if that helps.... I really hope it does :)
