Heres what i have so far. Running 2 AC fans rated at over 100cfm each. and thats just a 3m non hepa im gonna test for this run. I was wondering what i should do about sides/top of the work surface. at the moment im thinking just 2 thin pieces of wood paraellel with the sides and cut at an angle so a plexiglass top could slope down towards the user. can i get away with less than this?

Aren't hepa filters like 5 or 11 inches thick? I don't think those 2 small fans will move air through a filter that thick.

You will require a squirrel cage type fan to supply the static pressure necessary to achieve laminar flow. You need to find an old furnace fan, or purchase one from grainger.com or a local store. There is no physical way for a blade type fan like that to supply enough static pressure. It will simply cavitate under the resistance of the filter. Also, as noted, you'll need a proper laminar flow hepa filter which will be at least 5 inches thick. The filter you're using for tests will make an excellent pre-filter. RR

I use an in line centrifugal fan

The one I use is 70 mm, which is 2.75 inch. The thickness depends on the exact filter design and manufacturer.

i added a plexiglass sneeze guard + a frame with sides. After a load of petris (80) ive had 1 contam and i think that was from me accidentally poking the agar with my finger.

 pheonix oyster culture.

Very impressive work! Not a true laminar hood, but if it works, it works
1 out of 80, thats 0.8% contamination rate. Not bad.

Last one I built is a 24X48 & I just love it. Not very portable, though.
