His Masada albums are fantastic. The idea of blending jewish folk music with free jazz really doesn't sound like a good idea, but they are some of his most "listenable" albums.

yeah, what work specifically are you talking about? I prefer the Naked City albums but really appreciate the Masada work with Bill Frisell and Marc Ribot. I just love that frenetic energy and am often surprised that it comes from an acoustic setting.

his Tzadik label is completely amazing in its own right. he has always been very aware of the most competent musicians from the NYC downtown scene as well as worldwide. from the Tzadik label, I'd suggest these albums:

Carla Kihlstedt - Two Foot Yard (Bay Area violinist/vocalist who is most known from playing with Sleepytime Gorilla Museum {also well worth checking out}. her solo album is very diverse but focused. it's a rare treat for me when I'm in the mood.)

Mono - Under the Pipal Tree (from the New Japan series..they're one of my favorite Japanese artists and my favorite "post-rock" band. incredible.)

A Qui Avec Gabriel - Utsuho (also from the New Japan series. she's an amazing accordian player and creates very lively and dark mood music.)

Kayo Dot - Choirs of the Eye (one of my favorite bands who were the remains of maudlin of the Well. great guys (and girl) creating really inspired neo-classical music with a metallic edge. I saw them live on their first U.S. tour last Nov. and was really impressed with their stage presence.)

Ikue Mori - Hex Hitchen (incredible Japanese composer/improviser who mostly works out of the downtown NYC setting. one of the reasons why I enjoy Japanese experimental music so much.)

also, any of Bill Laswell's and Zeena Parkins' works on the Tzadik label are worth checking out but are pretty diverse (goes without saying for Zorn's label ).

"hell yea" indeed.

edit: oh shit, sorry for long drunken post. but yeah.
