You want more like 50/50...but...about a teaspoon to a tablespoon (Id go with the tablespoon)..you should add a quick acting buffer too (hydrated lime) not sure how much of that you should add though...if you dont add that, I'd add a bit more limestone powder (double or so). I always eyeball it You cant really add to much, within reason..but you can add to much hydrated lime so becareful with that stuff.

Im going to be useing 60/40 ver/peat casing how much limestone dust should i put in each qt of just peat before i make the mix. Thanks

The 50/50+ Casing Tek, which this does sound like, does recommend using either Hydrated Lime or the Calcium Carbonate (ground up limestone). The Calcium Carbonate is reportedly a gentler buffer and as a result, safer to use. Although both can be used in this tek. This comes straight from the tek text.

If you have sphagnum moss you don't need a buffer of any sort the pH is exactly 7.

Huh? Sphagnum moss should even be used..sphagnum peat moss should (they're differnt) but it definatly isnt usually neutral. It can vary quite a bit and be even 100 times more acidic then a neutral 7. Coco coir on the other hand comes at a neutral 7 and doesnt require a buffer..alther a long term helps IMO.

Heheh yes I was talking about peat silly not moss

pH meter in my canadian sphag peat reads exactly 7 before cased...pH of casing layer after 2 1/2 weeks 6.8.

That may be yours (although I know of someone who had the same thing happen, tested his meter on things that should have read 13...and they read 6.8 and it was just all off. Try it on household things to make sure its ok) but peat moss will vary depending on where its from, and a pH of 5 (which is perfectly normal for peat moss) is 100 times more acidic then yours...and would cultivate trich instead of mushrooms..

This is why, you should really have a meter for this...it can vary for sure..
