Drill a bunch of holes in the bottom of your coolmist.  Place the coolmist inside an appropriately sized tub.  Drill holes about 5 or six inches from the bottom of the tub (depends on height of coolmist).  Place something (figure it out) through the holes to keep the coolmist from floating.  Fill the tub with water to just below the holes.  Now you can refill the coolmist by adding water to the tub. Any runoff goes back into the tub.  You can place an aquarium heater in the tub with the coolmst for temperature control.

I'll hunt you down if you make a tek out of my idea!  I've been cool about it in the past.  But no more...

I tried this procedure that you describe but with some variation because I was also experiencing the same vicks leaking problem and I didn't want to have to refill it every day either.  So I drilled 4 1" holes into the bottom of my vicks and then wrapped quick fix tape around the outside of the unit where the top fitting and the base join.  Note: I didn't drill any holes in the side of the vicks.  Then I placed my vicks unit in a newly purchased cat litter box and proceeded to fill it with water until I reached the fill line.  Note: There is a fill line marked on the inside of the vicks but it can also easily be seen on the outside of the unit located on the back side, the top of the indentation is the fill line.  It took approximately 2 and 3/4 gallons to reach the fill line.  Also I should note that weighing down my vicks wasn't neccessary because it didn't float at all.  Which is probably due to the large holes drilled in the bottom and no holes drilled through the side.

The procedure has been a great success and I am currently experiencing no leaking problems and refills consist of no more than a gallon once a week.  :crazy2:

Why 4?
One would suffice.

Since the outtake is usually 1 inch diameter or less...and water isnt pouring out the outtake like its pouring in the intake..I agree, only 1 1" hole would be needed.

I made 4 holes because it sounded like a good idea to me but I guess 1 1" hole is sufficient. I was just posting the way that I did it and how I haven't experienced any problems.

Nice idea. I was thinking of floating the top part of a cool mist on styrofoam in a kitty litter box, but this is easier. Thanks

I fixed mine buy just adding more tubes. It took 3 5/8" ID tubes to keep the pressure down to where it wouldnt keep leaking out the area where the take and top meet.

Its actully perfect because now i have a tube for each shelf of the 3 tier greenhouse.

The water also condenses in the tubes before it gets into the greenhouse. Then it runs back into the cool mist.

So about a gallon of water a week and my water stays contained in my humidifer without being exposed to the outside air as much as the tub method.

Saves space too.

I let the water sit in open air and yes I add h2O2. The setup is in an enclosed room so there probably aren't that many contams in the open air in there.

Sorry no pics, but its real simple. Drill a 1" hole or make one some how in the bottom of the vicks and then just place it in a cat litter box.
