Ohhhh, so theres a layer of vermiculite on top and bottom of this mixture of spawn and pasturized poo? if that would be the case, poo would be quite contam resistant compaired to rice im sure.

Imma gonna slap you!~

You would use a casing layer on the top of the bulk substrate(poo) after it fully colonizes.
Verm isn't a good casing layer material by itself....I gave you a link to some great casing teks...go look at them!~
and don't use a bottom casing layer...that is a breeding ground for contams with bulk substrates....you only need a top casing layer.
horse poo can be very contam resistant if you have the moisture content right. you don't want to get it too wet.
ok?

, sorry, I'm just new to this whole concept. Ok im gonna look at those teks, although alot of the materials used in them I don't have access too, I live in a small city. Like coco coir, none of that, looked all around.

With mushroom casings you basically have two parts..the substrate and the casing. Substrate has to be fully colonized before casings. Be it cakes, whole grains, straw, poo, worm castings (worm poo), or compost..it has to be fully colonized. Bulk, doesnt colonize well from liquids (spores and liquid culture) like whole grains and cakes do, so first we get those colonized and use the solid myc to mix in the bulk substrate and wait for that to be fully colonized. Even though there was an extra step, thats not your casing..its still your source of nutrients and your substrate and you still need the second part..to cover the substrate from contams, provide a nice non nutrient microclimate to fruit in, and provide moisture. You add the top "dirt" to do these things..straight verm works..but is a poor microclimate and works better when mixed with something with better texture such as (buffered) peat moss, or coco coir. All three ingredients of the casing layer are non nutrititous.
Poo is more contam resistant than anything, not because you cover it with verm, but because you pasteurize it...killing bad things, but allowing good fungi and bacteria to live and thrive...which fights off bad things while allowing your mycelium to colonize it.

you can fruit dirrectly off horse poo without a casing layer.
but I stopped doing it.
you get better flushes when you case it.
