Has my honey water spawned growth?
    #4004500 - 04/02/05 10:40 AM (19 years, 9 months ago)

Its really hard to get a pic , but I think something is growing in my water culture. I used a very weak solution by accident , someone on the text chat told me one table spoon per liter would be sufficient.

When I hold the jar up to the light I can see little things floating around and what looks like stringy snot like stuff on the bottom. Have the spores started to spawn?

The spores have started to "germinate", yes. You're fine, a weak solution is always better than a strong solution for liquid cultures.

Awsome , thanks for the input. I had a syringe break during shipping so I figured I would try and make a water culture with what was left in the syringe.

Will I eventually be able to inoculate jars with this water?

Thanks again

No problem, and yes you sure can inoculate with that. Gently swirl every few days to spread the growth. Don't shake and beat the hell out of it, your culture can only take so many beatings before it stops working for you.

Just make sure to use sterile syringes + methods when the time comes, and you'll have lots of liquid culture to play with.

Ive been spinning the jar around every few days and the stuff on the bottom swirls around.

The supplier forgot to label the syringes so it will be a mystery culture , its either B+ or cambodian.

I wish I could get a better pic of the growth , but its difficult. It feels good to take something that was once useles , and make it into something you can use. This was also my first attempt at culturing anything.

I can just suck this water up with a sterile syringe and use it to knock up jars? How long will a culture like this last , cause theres way more than I can use at the moment.

Yes, that's how it's done. Generally, two weeks maximum is what's recommended, but in a fridge it could last a little longer. As it gets older, the mycelium gets tired out and contams are more likely.
