    #4017820 - 04/05/05 04:38 PM (11 years, 8 months ago)

on my next bach what can i change to maybe reduce the amount of aborts?

heres what i do.
soak then simmer wbs, pc for hour or so
incubate
pastureise hourse poo and straw in the oven
spawn the wbs

your growing conditions.

humidity and air exchange are your #1 reasons for aborts.

Aborts can be caused by lack of moisture, directly applied moisture, to hot, way too cold, pretty much anything besides optimal conditions. Need more info...

ok would not enough air exchange cause abourts? on the other hand would to much?. im really not adding humidity, they are just in 5 gallon buckets with plexiglass on the top. a hole towards the bottom with poly fill and a hole at the top with a air pump hose going in. im woundering if my air pump isnt powerfull enough to handel the set up.

Well, your air pump should be powerful enough.. 5 gallons isnt big. I think even the smallest air pump would do 5 gallons. Umm, if you don't have perlite or something on the bottom of the bucket for humidity that could be it. Air flow doesn't hurt. So I would suggest you try to get some perlite on the bottom of the bucket. Have your air pump hose going in the bottom hole with the hose under the perlite and make 2 holes at the top of the bucket for CO2 and the like to get out. This could make for a possibly better grow chamber.

Theres your problem right there..you just said you have an air pump...and no way of adding extra humidity. So your constantly pumping in dry air through the air pump. Air pumps should only be used connected to air stones under water and maybe under geolite or perlite. For a bulk tub, you'd need a cool mist humidifier (NOT AN EVAPORATIVE ONE, one like the Kaz Vicks with a spinning impeller that sucks up water..not a filter suching up water with a fan blowing over it) to pump in fresh HUMID air.

psilovibe, why would i want holes at the top for co2 when co2 is heavyer than o2, thats why im pumping fresh air in the top and forcing it out the bottom.

well its actualy runing 6 5 gallon buckets. maybe for my next go around ill throw a humidifyer in there to. i fegured it might be to much humitiy for bulk. ive been misting from afar, the walls are staying moist. i fegured if it was to much air exchange the walls would dry up before the casing. well thanks scatmanrav
