Relaxation is the remedy for mental constipation. It restores healthy function and proper digestion and flow of thoughts in the mind.

Used to be a way of life. And children excell at it. Now few seem able to do it in any deep ways. Stress rules the day.

Remember the Relaxation response. You cannot heal without it. :mushroom2:

Running, running, running away from self, too painful to feel what's really going on inside. Push it away. Please go away. I want to die. I want some peace.

It's still easier to talk about relaxing than it is to do so. That's kind of why I don't read S&P that much anymore.

"Just relax"
"Let the 'I' dissolve"
"Blah blah"
"everything Gomp says" haha jk Gomp, no offense

it's easier to spout this broad hollow nonsense than to do it.

Yes, of course its difficult, we've been fucking ourselves up for so long that at first it is difficult to fully relax. But once you get the hang of taking short breaks to relax in your daily life, it its not so difficult, it becomes easier. The reason its so difficult at first is usually because of our expectations. We expect to be able to get it all NOW and stress ourselves over the fact that we are not. Such is our consumer mentality. But it takes quite a while to cut through that shit and get down to business.

How bout it Fred! On the other hand, coming here more often and reading reminders helps to make using this stuff easier.

After I put up this post, feeling oh so relaxed and wanting to remind anyone getting tense and dense to chill, I went out to pressure wash my pool patio prepping for a party I'm throwing for my daughters B-D this Sat.

An hour in, I caught myself totally stressing. I started getting all worked up about how other parents are going to judge my home and the party, I started panicking that I had to much to do and not enough time to do it and was totally overwhelming myself and getting sloppy as I was rushing.

Then, I remembered this post and started laughing at myself. I stopped in my tracks. I first thought, "why do I care what other people think. My house rocks and I spent a fortune on party stuff and entertainment and the party will rock too. I have four days to get less then 2 days worth of stuff done, what am I rushing for? "

I became so calm and relaxed, I suddenly had time to take a break on the lounge with a cool one and come here to read a spell and type this. Blood pressure back to its usual 80 over 60.

Like egghead said, when we start entertaining thoughts that have no basis other then conditioning that we have to be perfect and right and in a hurry to to get our piece of the pie we start to stress out.

If you run through the thoughts you're stressing on with the  process of elimination, soon, everything calms down. Ha ha ha, I just used the phrase "process of elimination in an ex-lax relax from mental constipation post" That must be the secret to how mental ex lax works. Eliminate the thoughts that are baseless.

Here's a trick for quick relaxation also. Where ever you are take a few to find something to focus on, be it fish in a tank, a painting on the wall or the design of a chair and get totally caught up and 100% emersed in IT. The idea is to break your mind from the cycling.

Once you are caught up in it and then return to what you are doing, suddenly half or more of what you were stressing over disappears somehow.

I'll see my husband stressing over a work load working around the clock and make him take a break, like go for a bike a ride or spend the afternoon at the beach. When he is done, somehow, half the weight of his "mis -perceived" work load and lack of time just disappeared.

He usually comes back so calm and relaxed, he's not even in a hurry to get back to his work.

Oh well, thanks for all the thoughtful additions to this everyone!

When I got to the end of your post. I saw, "why aren't you laughing" I remember that a good belly laugh is oh so very relaxing.

Any one got a really funny joke?
