Does anyone know the reason why pot makes some peoples' eyes red?

"Red eyes" are seen when the blood vessels in the eyes are dilated (larger than normal) and therefore become more visible. This can be caused by many factors that cause an irritation of the eye (e.g. smoke, dust, pollen, Marijuana)

Isn't that why they use weed for glocoma? Cus it dialates the blood vessels in the eye(s)?

Yes...it relieves pressure on the eyes, although I'd say that not many people are treated for glaucoma with marijuana. I'm pretty sure I get red eyes (every damn time) from a slight allergic reaction to either marijuana itself, or smoke. not sure which yet.

I don't think that will happen. I've never used visine and my eyes still get red.

Sometimes I use visine and sometimes not, but the only thing that affects the redness of my eyes is my tolerance level.

Oddly enough in friends I've noticed that if they have lighter coloured eyes then they get more bloodshot? I have very dark brown eyes so it hardly makes mine even glaze, this is probably a co-incidence but does anyone have any thoughts to why this could be the case?

i think perhaps the red-eye is easier to see when you have lighter coloured eyes.

I have very dark eyes so it's near impossible to notice when my pupils dilate. But I still get red eye from weed unless I have very high tolerance like three times daily for a long time. So I doubt eye colour affects how red your eyes get, though on darker eyes the red might be harder to see.

Red eyes aren't so much a problem for me as dry eyes are. Bleh. Water's good for that.

I like to use a little visine tears or normal visine from time to time. And I find that visine alergy formula works wonders for getting rid of red eye. But I would hardly advise using them all the time as abusing anything's bad for ya. But in a jam, like around parents or at work (Which I hardly advocate, but do anyways). :blazed:

This one buddy of mine, ever since one may long weekend, where much weed was smoked, he now no longer gets red eyes. Ever.

There is only one kind of eye drops that work for me, Clear Eyes. The rest don't do shit, and when I smoked my eyes get mad red.

I wonder if red eyes are technically an allergic reaction. Its clear that the expanded vessels are the cause of the redness; however, what's the cause of the expanded vessels? maybe an allegic reaction.
I tried figuring out what exactly an allergic rxn was here but to no avail and several server errors

the type of cannabis seems to affect how red my eyes get

for instance, a lot of outdoor weed really gets me eyes red as fuck, whereas beaster don't do it so much for the same amount smoked.

I got a question would your eyes still get red if you had your eyes closed while you burn because when my eyes get red only the part of my eye thats open is red, If I look down and pull my head back and my eyes roll back I can actually see a line where the red stops and white begins. I dont know if this is because they were opened when I burned or what but has anyone else experianced this?

Same here, and actually I've never thought about it...I mean if it's a vasodilator logically your entire eyeball would dilate.

Try it, keep your eyes closed the entire time and see what happens, then let us know, because I'd be interested to find out.
