What would this do??
    #401665 - 09/23/01 01:29 PM (22 years, 9 days ago)

I was just wondering if adding some sort of fertilizer would help shrooms grow better (i.e. bigger)??? Or would it just end in disaster?

Most fertilizers contain nitrogen and nitrogen promotes contams. The best mineral to add is some form of calcium. Lime, gypsum, or egg shells.

I hear that honey is good to add to the substrate water. It results in more nutrients for the shrooms to feed off which will in return cause bigger and more fruit bodies. You only need like a table spoon per 1cup of hot water (needs to be hot inorder to dilute the honey).

Use a typical formula for the substrate, and then add calcium carbonate (gypsum or crushed oyster shell) to your casing. Hawk's 50/50 (plus) formula is what I use with some slight modifications, and it works amazingly well.

Well... I don't know the exact ingredients, but I know on the bag, it says that it has some calcium with vermiculite, some perlite i think, some other shit. If you want, I'll write the stuff down and write it on here. I know that it says that it is PH balanced and that balancing has something to do with calcium.

Where do you get the calcium carbonate...Home Depot, Lowe's? Is there more than one kind?
