Tips for LOWERING temperature?
    #4016441 - 04/05/05 11:21 AM (11 years, 8 months ago)

FOAF is growing in his closet. Lives upstairs. Summer is coming, and it gets freaking HOT up there. Maybe past 84'. Air conditioning isn't really a viable option. Ideas? Comments?

do you live in a dry climate where a swamp cooler works?
not much difference in them except price and how they work.
you'll still need a window and water to hook up to.

i wouldn't personally do this because of all the hassle involved, but
it has been suggested that you can fill up gallons or two liters w/ ice to keep the ambient temp down.

Maybe try to find an old used mini fridge (ebay, classifieds, etc...) and keep it on it's lowest setting. You could also modify it by cutting adjustable vent holes in the door.

The smart way to keep people passive and obedient is to strictly limit the spectrum of acceptable opinion, but allow very lively debate within that spectrum - even encourage the more critical and dissident views. That gives people the sense that there's free thinking going on, while all the time the presuppositions of the system are being reinforced by the limits put on the range of the debate

A very ghetto, but cheap and effective way to lower temps is to hang a wet towel in front of a box fan. It's labor intensive, as you have to change the towel for a wet one about once an hour. It works though.

i had this same question! My house is too fucking cold since I started growing and I would rather just isolate the lower temps to my room/FC.

I would get a window AC unit, but I have a sliding glass door that goes out to a porch, no windows...

I thought of doing this way, but it would be too high maintainence: Take reusable freezable thingies used for coolers and lunch-boxes and shit, and just get a whole bunch of them. Put them in, on, or around your FC. When they aren't frozen, switch them out.

I assume that it would be impossible to maintain a stable temp doing this, but it would probably work...

Go to some mobile home park or something with a truck. Hook up a cable or strong rope to the back of the truck and to an AC window unit and then drive off. Or just buy one?

+1 (as if RR needs MY +1, hahahah).

Also, they sell small swamp cooler type units that you fill manually....no need for a hose or window; and probably considerably cheaper to run than the small electric A/C's.

I would be looking to pipe cool air in from another part of the house, or save up money for a portable A/C unit.

I can hardly believe people are seriously suggesting hanging a wet towel in front of a box fan every hour.
