plastic lids and tyvek position ~stalled jars

So I recently switched to plastic lids for my jars. I got sick of rusty lids. So I drilled a larger hole on one side of the plastic jar (1/4" or so diameter) and on the other side of the lid, I drilled a small hole for injection. I inoculated all of the jars in my glovebox. But with the metal lids I had hanging around, I put the lid down first, then the tyvek, then the band. So, after inoculation on the metal lids, the alcohol-soaked piece of guaze went directly onto the injection site and was band-aided there in place and then covered with a coffee filter. With the plastic lids, the tyvek went *under* the plastic lid, and when I inoculated through the small hole, an alcohol-soaked piece of gauze was put over the hole in the plastic to cover it and that was band-aided in place and the plastic lid was covered with a coffee filter. Alas, there is some free space between the tyvek and the lid. The gauze does sit over the injection hole, but I'm getting the feeling that bacterial contams are getting into the jars from the breathing hole, under the lid, to the space directly below the gauze where it doesn't sit tight on the plastic lid jars. I had 7 plastic lid jars stall out and get sour. Then I did a second batch and the metal lid jars did all right (well, I was playing around with coffee ratios and some of them aren't doing so well), but the single plastic lid jar that was just WBS--no coffee-- has stalled out. I'm thinking I need to tape the tyvek over *top* of the plastic lid's holes so everything is snug and there is no open space beneath the plastic lid and over the tyvek. Can anyone comment on similar experiences? W3rd to yo' mothers.

Silicone the tyvek on, instead of tape it...should work fine and better..dont have to replace it all the time..

I have seen some of agar's posts about making silicone plugs on the injection sites...I can't seem to find the pictorials he used. I have a tube of permatex "Ultra Black Hi-Temp RTV silicone gasket maker" stuff...used that to affix some aluminum rods to my needles to extend their reach (worked very well, second time around, btw ). can I use this stuff to make a self-healing injection port and and to affix the tyvek onto the breathing hole?
Thanks.

So, I can use that both as a glue for the tyvek (looked like in the pics Agar posted that he had two metal squares, screwed together with tyvek in between them then siliconed onto the plastic breathing hole). And just fill the injection hole on the plastic lid with a bead of the permatex gasket silicone? And that bead will self-heal?
Oh, Prish, Joor th' beshtest, btw.
