how to return nutrients to a log/casing

Why isn't it possible to return essential nutrients to a casing/straw log? What is it about straw that's so special that these nutrients can't be reabsorbed during a nutrient dunk? What ought to be in the nutrient dunk? Let's discuss this!

well the deal is, the nutrients within say a straw tub are within the straw and will get 'pulled out' as the mushrooms mature.
by dunking them (submerging them) in water, you can give back moisture but you will not give them back nutes.
dunking them im 'nuted' water would bring along 2 potential problems. first off, your casing layer will get nuted and second that water is a potential contamnination vector as it cannot be sterile no matter what you try to do to archive that and tehrefor could render a whole project to shit taht would habe been ok if plain water dunked.
one factor to consider is putting more nutes in there frmo the beggining by using nute'd verm as i am currently running tests in my rez effect revised thread:
link: http://www.shroomery.org/forums/showflat.php/Cat/0/Number/4004451/an/0/page/0
that would allow you to have some more in there.
another thing for plain grain casings would be the preperation of a nutrient solution, sterile ofcoz, that can be applied to the substrate by injection via sterile syringe, i had a mate of mine having great success using that method.
i think agar recently wrote about some nute pump, that could be handy, hit him back. beisdes that, thats all that comes to my mind right now after being awake for 20 mins lol peace ohm

Well, okay let's not consider casings because of their non-nutritious layers. It seems that as long as the mycelium in a straw log is healthy and producing, it's got its own antibodies and enzymes that will fight off contamination. Adding nutrients ought not introduce contaminants. The mycelium is fighting off contaminants constantly anyway, why wouldn't added nutrients just be utilized by mycelium while it continues to hold contaminants at bay?

The nature of STRAW (a grain stalk) is not absorbent. It?s exterior is after all genetically designed to withstand water absorption (shiny waxy coating).
Attempting to introduce liquid nutrients into straw (that is not degraded by composting) causes the liquid to pool, rather than be absorbed rapidly. Those pools are contamination magnets & perfect breeding grounds.
