What Substrate can i move onto??
    #401480 - 09/23/01 09:39 AM (23 years, 6 months ago)

AFOAF has been using BRF VERM for about 3 batches of shrooms. We were wondering what can he move onto thats sort of a step up form this beginner substrate.

Where can he obtain these materials

What needs to be done differently from the steps used for BRF VERM? is everything the same besides the substrate??

thanks a lot

may your shroomies be plentiful

Any whole grain is good. I've grown fond of brown rice. You will need a pressure cooker.

my neighbor's cat, in an effort to encorage me to provide her with opened cans of tunefish went through the whole nine yards of learning this without people to give any advice.

the next step is not a new substrate, it is to use your cakes to make tray type culture, some people call cases. then, when you have gotten that down, you can think about a new substrate. small trays will not require a new setup. if your entire terrarium is full of cased cake, you may need to do some means of increasing air exchange. this could be as simple as opening the lid in the morning and at night, saying hello to the girls, see if they are okay, and putting the lid back on.

Rye with coco-coir casing. Easy as hell with great bumper harvests. Pre-boiling the rye sorts out the moisture levels to a T and solves contam probs.

I cased a couple of times before, producing some nice contams and a couple of small shrooms. i think these 'errors' were made during sterilization of the casing, any tips??
