Keeping water off your caps
    #4014677 - 04/04/05 11:18 PM (11 years, 8 months ago)

Besides using a drip shield (its not dripping on the caps, its condensing), what is the way you people keep water from builing up on the caps?

I use a cool mist input into a martha (at the top) and a 40mm computer fan for ventilation.

Even with this, the caps stay moist... I keep getting the blotch.

rH stays around 87-95%

I was thinking about just installing 2 more fans inside the chamber, not taking any input, but to just move the air around...

WHat are your thoughts?

the fans may work, you may want to also think about trying to raise the temp
a few degrees to help keep the water in vapor form.

try it a little higher, around 24-24.5C for a bit, I've noticed it helps with
fruiting on some strains and you may even venture as high as 25C, you guys
with that crazy metrical system... :smirk:

are you still bitter? What are you supposed to do when you hand spray? That pics looks like a bad airflow problem along with water

bacteria pseudomona, it's not a problem with poor airflow since most terrariums
have no flow other than fanning, when I hand spray I spray from a bit more of a
distance, that way the heavier droplets fall before they hit the terrarium, the
finer mist gets to where it needs to go without introducing too much water to
the mushrooms, thus boosting the humidity instead of wetting everything.

and no... I'm just busting a myth

A misting with a hand mister works great. I think that the drip shield idea has gone the way of the dinosaours. I don't see any problem with an misting when necessary and the mist "hitting" the pins or caps. You don't want your caps soaked or bacteria will grow, but having some mist in the terrarium isn't bad.
