Storing cakes for a month
    #4014471 - 04/04/05 10:44 PM (11 years, 10 months ago)

Probably won't work but...

Keeping an indoor terrarium is no longer an option, and it is about 1 month away from ideal outdoor cultivating temperatures. Is there any way to store cakes for a month without them fruiting and without them getting to dried out?

Has anybody ever tried something like this with success? If its not possible should I plant them outside anyway and see what happens, the temperatures will be around 15-20 degrees at the most.

Any tips on saving my precious cakes would be awesome, thanks!

They have been birthed, and have been fruiting for a couple months now. If I were to throw them outside with an outdoor tek, even though the temps are not ideal would they stay dorment until they get the temps they like?

It's only been three flushes, some of the cakes I did later so only one flush, it's my first grow and something always got in the way of making a spore print (hopefully I can do it this flush, how would a fourth flush print turn out?). Plus theres the most likely possibility that I'll mess up the spore print so it would be nice to keep em going as long as possible.

I figured death due to cold is the reason I don't see to many growing in my backyard. Out of curiosity, do the type of mushrooms I'd be looking for grow in Ontario, Canada at all? I've done a few searches but haven't come up with much, maybe my patch will spark some growth if they don't already.

the myc dont die in cold weather. even at freezing as long as they arnt froxen to long the will live.

You can store myc at -70c (dry ice) and then thaw and they will live. But the first generation after the thaw is gonna be weak.
