Wich species are able to fruit on paper wastes?
    #4012931 - 04/04/05 04:19 PM (12 years, 23 days ago)

I'm looking for an ecological way of disposing of paper/cardborad wastes and recycle it into yummy mushrooms.

So far I've been reading about Oysters and I'm on my way to get a spore print and start working with this species, but I'm curious as if shiitakes would also work this way? What others species do fruit on paper? I didn't find any info on this on the faqs.

Thanks in advance for your responses

WOW!! That's just beautiful! That yields just on paper? I guess P. Pulmonaris would be the way to go then

How did you treat it? Rye spawn into compressed paper maybe?

Well, I must tell you that this mushroom is not so tasty, it has fishy (oyster) smell sometimes and it must be used immediately after harvesting. Long cooking or frying is a must. You have to experiment with small quantities, then make a decision.

Good luck.

The paper was shreded. I added wheat bran and gypsum and boiled 30 minutes. Then stuffed in 12.5 inch plastic sleeves with wheat grain spawn. The spawn was made with SW syringe. The mushroom overcame contams easily.

Note the hair growing on this mushroom...

Yeah, I LOVE oysters fried  I just got ahold of my first Pulmonaris print, so hopefully in a month or so you'll hear from me again

But I'm still interested in knowing if any other species grow on paper.
Anyone?
