What are your best ways to drain your WBS before loading the jars?

Like whoa.

PVC, screen (slack left in the middle), attach with zip ties. Strains 25-30 quarts at a time..great for casing mix too.

Any kind of collander. Let drain for at least an hour. Shake the collander like your trying to get the rest of the ketchup out of the bottle every now and then. You don't want any droplets of water draining from the collander, AT ALL!

just a usual kitchen drain, drainage time depends on how long you soak /simmer, so dont just follow someones "drain-tek" without knowing the whole process.

When I soak for 16-18 hours and simmer for 10 minutes I drain 10-20 minutes in a kitchendrainer (is that an english word?) ?
When I dont have time on my side I help it a hand by shaking the water out a bit.

When finished simmering, and also before, I rinse the WBS too.
Recently I did a grow on rye, but the same strain didnt grow as good as wbs.

So might switch back o WBS. BUt it is hard to get ORGANIC WBS, here.

MF

Edit: and yes I PC 90 minutes too, with polyfill holes. Always good results. Last contam was when I PC-ed a jar only an hour.

It should sound dry...I soak for 24 hours..then simmer bird seed for about 10 minutes (at a pretty nice boil) before draining, and it steams like you see in the second pic...then after mixing it around with water steaming and straining off at the same time (dont rinse it after you simmer or you lose this steaming effect) and then mix in a bit of dry verm until the outside of the kernals look dry, but the kernals are all puffed up..and the verm shouldnt stay dry, it should all get to field capacity soaking up the extra water...the verm isnt needed of course, but helps fix water content problems if you have them..

The key is draining. Even if it's 2 hours. This is a 1 gallon pickle jar (seed drained well) and pc'd for 2 hours @ 15psi. No probs!!!

Awww Paw Paw ...... PC pop off is a real bad thing. Why.....?

POP/OFF like that brings all the water/moisture content in PC to an instant BOIL, boil creates INSTANT STEAM & PRESSURE.... which exhausts out of the PC (and PC content) like flames out of rocket engine on space shuttle.

In effect, POP/OFF vaporizes moisture content & blows in out of everything in PC (including wbs in jars in PC)under great pressure.

SADLY ......I would surmise, the moisture content of this batch of your WBS is now NOT OPTIMAL. Which leads to slow colonization, stalls & dead halts in colonization :mad2:.

I would not put it to use (that's just me). As results may be crap.

I would empty out & resoak WBS, then PC again @ 15 / 18 psi. Better chance of getting it right, rather than poor results.

Just my humble experiance.

Smile ........but not laughing. Not fun is it.

Once on a h/poo bag run, bag must have plugged pressure relief valve. POP/OFF blew, bags burst & tobbaco like poo juice blasted out.

Caused real pissed significant other & re/paint of kitchen. I wish I would have taken a picture, but didn't think of it, as G/F was mad & screaching at the time

Bought older hvy duty kitchen stove & wired it up - out in the shop.
