Is this an alright way to pasturize horse crap? (Need experienced advice)
    #4008175 - 04/03/05 10:28 AM (19 years, 18 days ago)

Alright, I heard something like this in a tek for straw a while ago, but I was curious as to whether or not it would work with horse poo.

1. Take your 2 rubbermaid tubs and put one inside of the other for insulation.
2. Add the aged/leeched/ammonia-free horse poo.
3. Add a bit of hot water, and then add some boiling water to bring the temp up to 160.
4. Keep temp between 160 and 180 for a couple of hours.

Now, the parts I'm confused about are:
A. What is the temp range you want to keep the poo at? Was I correct when I said 160-180? Or was it 140-160? I forgot
B. How long should I pasturize it for? Is 2 hours overkill?
C. Aren't I supposed to add some lime? How much and what kind?

Thx

Yep, this will work.  Sustained temperature between 140-180 is just what you want.  2 hours is sufficient.

No need to add lime.

Have fun

Ahh.. I see. Nice. So I could just use a couple of autoclav bags and put 'em on the stove and cook the shit up nice and good!

Sweetness! Easier than I thought man...

Thx for you guyses help.

And thx for the link Pris, I'll be sure to PM that to myself. Apparently I could do 175` F for 30-40 mins. Poo in a pillowcase on the stove.

Sure can, even makes things easier if you have an impulse sealer. Impulse autoclave bags w/ pre-moistened horse poo loaded into bags, and submerge in bath of water for pasterurization. No mess and easy.

Niiice. Damn.. Once I get these spores I'm gonna set up a mini-bulk grow. I can't wait.. I kept putting off bulk horse poo 'cause I thought it was complicated.

Hmm...If they were sealed..I could fill a laundry bag up with poo bags...and do like 2 dozen bags in my trash can all at once...hrm....guess its time to find my sealer...

The only thing about pasturizing ur poo on the stove is that you have to buy a seperate pot. Unless of course you use autoclavable bags. But even then, using the pot for food is still kind of gross.

I didnt untill agar suggest I get one...Thermodyne 1900 off ebay, was about 40 bucks to my door and goes up to 300 degrees C...they go on ebay often for cheap. Make sure you get a lab style though if you go with it (the same brand is usually the cheapest quality ones but any lab one will do, not them cheapo stove ones though) Add to a 10 dollar trash can, siliconed well inside, and out...you got a 20 gallon pasteurizer for 50 bucks.

You could also install a heating element from a water heater (elements can be found at home depot and many other places) into the side of the trashcan, and set it up on bricks. With a dial wired into it, you could do it without the hotplate. Hot plate serves many purposes though and fairly cheap

You can also get large metal tubs, shroter, but bigger around...I saw them at home depot...it would fit right in the middle of a stove, sitting on all 4 burners...that would cook up some shit quick like.

I'm thinking about buying a propane heater.

King of the Hill has me sold on using propane.
