Need to pick...but can't?

On one of my PF cakes I have 2 mushrooms that are pretty much connected at the base. One of them has opened and the veil is broken, and the other is not fully mature. I've heard that mushrooms need to be picked right after the veil breaks, but if I do this I am worried about damaging the other mushroom that it is attached to. How much longer can I wait to pick it?
Thankya

You don't NEED to pick the mushroom after the veil breaks. It can grow for a little longer if you want.

Yeah, I just let mine grow for a bit if they have a partner hanging with them. You can always make a spore print out of the older one.

If you don't pick them, they grow a bit more. Some people don't let their mushrooms reach maturity (or over-maturity). Like I said before, you don't NEED to pick them right at that moment.

Yuo can pick it if it is connected to another mushroom. You just have to be careful and not rip the other one off too.

It'll cause spores to drop all over your grow chamber if you let them go too long.
I don't know of any other adverse affects from over-maturing. I'm sure theres other reasons though.

Spores make a mess all over the casing is about it. You can pick shrooms whenever...you have like 5-7 days between the point when the veil is getting ready to tear (the earliest people pick them..they say they're most potent before the veil tears..thers been no evidence of this being a fact..but its widly believed anyway) and the point when they get really over mature and are at risk for rotting.

as you have read it is okay to let them grow. Back in the day people used to think the smaller immature shrooms were stronger, this is a myth. Let it grow, you may get spores everywhere but who cares.
-------------------- Stop experimenting half way through your first grow. Grow it to maturity, watch it, learn from it. Do this a few times then experiment with different ideas and figure out what works best for you.
