Need help germinating cacti seeds
    #4007275 - 04/03/05 01:59 AM (13 years, 2 months ago)

When I ordered a syringe from sporebank.com they threw in a special treat!  (10) Trichocereus Peruvianus "Peruvian Torch" seeds.  I knew instantly what I had here so instead of trying to germinate them all at once I only tried two seeds.  Of course nothing happened :frown:
Can anyone give some good germinating directions?  I'd love to grow some cacti.

This is what u do, buy cactus soil and put the seeds on top of the soil. Put the pot in plastic bag or propagate in a progation chamber. Whatever same thing, they need this humidity environment for months and months until they get big, it takes forever ok.

Do not remove them from the enviroment until they are at least a centimeter or larger is prefered or they will die. They love to die, be really carefull with them

im using several methods and the best looking ones are in a mini PMP... check my homepage in my siggy \/\/\/ for pics...

a quick tip: mix some Superol in your water to prevent/combat fungus attacks... (4 tablets/liter)

Put them in mildly alkaline free-draining soil and put the pots inside a ziplock bag. Keep them wet in the first months.

I had great viability with all the cacti seeds i got from Kohres kakteen, around 80-90%.

Another good 'cactus from seed' guide is: http://archives.thenook.org/1393.html

I just take my normal potting soils and add a cup of sand to 5 cups soil. Cast seeds on surface spray with water and place in bag.

This is what I do....

Take Gladware (or similar disposable tupperware), fill with a misture of 3 parts comercial cactus potting soil, 1 part horriculture sand. Sprinkle seeds over top of soil and press em into soil lightly, mist thorughly.

You should see germination in a week or so. Have fun growing these!
