Some TiT questions...
    #4004353 - 04/02/05 09:51 AM (19 years, 19 days ago)

Okay, I currently have a running TiT. I used two 18 gallon Rubbermaid Roughneck totes and a 200w fish tank heater. I also added a cheap pump as I thought it wouldn't hurt. Temps are currently very good.

But the Rubbermaid tubs are very flexible. Too flexible. I am holding the inner tub down with about 50lbs of free-weights (because of all the water used). And it's causing the outer tub to bulge out and inner tub to bulge in.

Even though it's working fine (indeed, because it is working so fine) I'd like to invest in some heavier duty bins to replace the "Rough"necks. Any suggestions? I'm looking for something pretty much just like the one used here: http://www.fungifun.org/pf/incubator.htm. I've been searching Froogle for about an hour now but can't find anything I like.

Just run over to walmart and look for a thick one that a little water pressure couldn't bend, you can tell the skinny ones from the thick ones.. just about any work.

I will when I can get around to going to the store, but I'd rather just get them online. Less of a hassle...

look at this one. Click here!~

Use a smaller tub on top...then your top won't float.

Only draw back...less room inside.

Just make more incubators...I have many.

I'm doing the exact same thing with mine. In one of the TEKs someone said to use zip straps to hold the top tub down inside the bottom one.

Roadkill, in yours do you have water in between the walls or just at the bottom? And are those 18 and 14 gallon tubs or what?

Just water in the bottom of the bottom tub...about 6" of water.

Yes they are 14 and 18 gallon rubbermaid tubs.

Instead of a weight try putting epoxy on bottom of smaller tub that will hold it in place no problem

with the 14 and 18 gallon rubbermaid tubs you don't need to hold them down with anything.
