So much for candles and prayers and faith and miraculous healing.

Maybe he would have been dead sooner if it weren't for prayers

Perhaps cutting my toenails gave him an extra year.

Without any demonstrable link, there is ABSOLUTELY NO REASON to believe either one has any effect.

So why were people praying? To prolong his suffering?

Maybe he would have been dead sooner if it weren't for prayers
.
And perhaps he would still be living without any prayers from anyone....  My take, it may have never really mattered, but it did bring a lot of people together in peace and rememberance of what he did in his lifetime....    As he is dead, WE still live....

Of course, but prayer is on trial because someone once said it works, nobody ever said cutting nails works, but if he did we would be questioning the power of cutting nails instead.

That's why, even if prayer works, it wouldn't work this time...

One more thing I can't understand:
why are all those people sad and crying, they are all believers who believe he just moved to another form of existence.
Tey wouldn't cry if he moved to Australia forever, so why do they cry now

The important thing is not to stop questioning. Curiosity has its own reason for existing. One cannot help but be in awe when he contemplates the mysteries of eternity, of life, of the marvelous structure of reality. It is enough if one tries merely to comprehend a little of this mystery every day. Never lose a holy curiosity. ~ Albert Einstein

I turned on my television and the first news channel I came across was Fox News. First they say how much longer he lived then the doctors said he would. Now they're saying he was "The perfect human being for the fall of communism."

I guess you could say "Yeah, and the Pope's not Catholic" and mean it now.

--------------------
The very nature of experience is ineffable; it transcends cognitive thought and intellectualized analysis. To be without experience is to be without an emotional knowledge of what the experience translates into. The desire for the understanding of what life is made of is the motivation that drives us all. Without it, in fear of the experiences what life can hold is among the greatest contradictions; to live in fear of death while not being alive.

I guess it would be nicer of me to
feel an urge to confort these people with what I said, instead of rub it in their noses.

My reward/punishment is who I get to be in the end

Catholicism is still alive and another will replace him. All of this fan fair may result in a lot of people converting over or renewing faith in it.

You have your work cut out for you swami. I'm done taking on the Catholics dogma.

God wanted him to die cuz he did every thing he was supposed to do in his life time, he wasnt being productive any more or something.........

I think all in all i just dont give to shits that he died! Did he do any thing actually wurthy to deem himslef a spritual figure? Did he pull a rabbit out of a hate, touch a cripple and miraculesly give them the power to walk again?
Who needs some one else when we got just as much power to do these things on our own, cuz people are lazy and need a messiah to do it for them. So there fore every one is only victims of their own minds.

He traveled the world encouraging people to be peaceful, and use more diplomacy. He felt bad for everyone who suffered, citizens in Poland struggling under communism, people trapped high in the world trade center, Palistineans, jews... he was globally minded. Yo he was an awesome pope so .

when i see these thousands of people on tv talking in low murmurs, staring with blank faces i can't help but think they look like zombies. it's such a wierd way to commemerate the dead, when I die i want people to celebrate my life and the positive things i did, then go dance or something, have a feast, whatever makes u feel good. There could be a time for mourning and then afterwards a time for celebration. I think it all goes back to the idea that death is somehow not natural, that it's 'bad' and that we should fear it because we will be judged by God when we die.
