Meaningful words you speak.... Meditation, something that I really need to discipline in myself.... I have done little meditation in my past(actually just within the last week), but I will start to balance life out with meditation for the future of what I like to call my "Train Of Thought".... It is just another metaphor for what you have described above with the elephant taming.... As even in me, my "Train of Thought" very much seems to trample me with an out of control run-away train without a driver.... At least the way I see it now, I can be the driver.... Change for me is a good thing.... It is time for my positive changes in life so as I can make my own destiny, and tame that "Train" to use it as a means for positive change.... A means that may give my life true meaning....

Funny that in my past, I wrote a song that has more meaning to me now than ever called, "Freight Train Hurricane".... The first line in the song, "Jump off the tracks if you feel you know the way".... As a metaphor, one's destiny does not have tracks to follow.... The "set" tracks for the train are an illusion.... The "Hurricane" represents you and me.... Behind every hurricane lies a path of change.... With Training and discipline, that hurricane can be a positive change that is left in our wake.... Ironic that I wrote that song many years ago, and just now see the deeper meaning to what I had written.... Before I saw me as running from the hurricane while riding in my freight train without tracks.... Now I realize that I can be that hurricane....

being aware of the thought is a kind of double duty.
in a way it is a bending of mind such that it watches itself, or takes a position in which observation or awareness is part of the ongoing thought stream.
I think of it as a shapeless mind mudra (though asana might be better but mudra refers more to hand gesture than body position and it is a thrust of mind to some degree, so more like mudra)
a kind of self-referential gesture of mind, relaxing and seeing the ongoing process while yet part of the process - inseparable.

Aaaahhh, I have heard the term "Eyes Wide Open" a lot in the last few days from various people and for various reasons....
.
So you have....
"Eyes Wide Open" seems to fit....(?)
.
But, then there is....
"Mind Wide Open" just might be fitting too....(?)
.
And....
"Heart Wide Open" seems to fit as well....(?)
.
Perhaps it is all three that makes one free....(?)
Funny how some of the most profound things seem to come in "three's" for me in my life.... Hhhhhmmmmmm....
