Ayahuasca compared to shrooms?
    #4004097 - 04/02/05 08:55 AM (12 years, 30 days ago)

I am quite experienced with shrooms, but have never tried ayauasca, I would like to hear from people with experience to compare the effects, similarities/differences, pros/cons.
Would you say one is more similar to LSD or another drug?

Im not sure that you can compare the two... ayahuasca is completely different. Go to erowid.com and go to Ayahuasca and read some of the experiences

Really? They are quite different, but then again the actives in both are tryptamines and chemically much more similar than say psilocybin and LSD.

i have no experience whatsoever with ayahuasca, but from what i've read i'd imagine it would be a very different experience to shrooms. it would also depend on exactly how the brew is prepared.

chemical similarity doesn't mean the effects of the drugs are similar. take psilocybin and DMT for example, both tryptamines, both very different.

i for once have never tryed it. terence mckenna said in one of his lectures tha mushrooms seem to tell you things, and everything is very auditory, yet the ayauscha brew seems to SHOW you, somehow in a visionary language. i gotta try the cleansing one of these days when the time is right

Well I've never tried DMT, but I've read and heard a lot about it. Like Damn mentioned, Terence McKenna described the difference as visual vs auditory, shrooms talk to you and DMT actually shows you. On shrooms you only hear this voice, on DMT you see what's talking to you and you actually see what it's saying.

DMT trips can also start to dissolve after you had them, like a dream melts away in the morning. It's not uncommon for people to remember absolutely nothing about the trip other than it was the weirdest and most intense experience they've ever had. DMT doesn't change you as a person either. Most drugs will futz with your mind while you're high and, for example, make you much less anxious. DMT leaves your 'being' completely untouched, so you're exactly the same throughout this trip as you are when you're totally sober.

Ayahuasca might not be as intense as smoking DMT, but apparently you can get to the same 'place' as smokeable DMT brings you to with some practice.
