I buy colonised Rye substrate in a form of a kit from a friend. he puts it in a plastick tray, like most kits, and sprinkles some vermiculite on top. He told me to pour a half cap of water on TOP of the kit!!!
I did that and few weeks later i have a really moist verm layer on top and mushies growing from SIDES and edges of the kit!!
Anyway, i wat to get few more pounds of rye substrate and CASE it myself.
What do you think is the best most productive way?
I thought to take another plastic tray, fill it with MOIST vermiculate at the right level, and then dupm his rye kye kit UPSIDE DOWN on top of case with verm. It should feed it with water from benieath and ensure successful pinning from the top.

well you fucked it up sorry to say.
your supposed to moisten the verm, sterilize it in jars or alike, let cool then apply it to the rye.
also it would be a good idea to mix it with some peat or alike, here some pics of what to do:
this is verm and some already mixed verm with cococoir b4 pc'ing:

here's some rye broken up in a container:

than the casing mix is applied, covered with foil and holes poked:

after patchign and all the stuff, it eventually came to look like that:

that was my first grow ever. good luck. peace ohm

as far as i know you dont really need to sterilise casing made of verm
if you case only the bottom you dont watse precious time, pinning starts almost immidiately and it feeds thro the bottom layer of moist verm
thats my next project i'll let you know how it goes.

just believe me, i got enuf grows under my ass but u are right about no need to sterilize it, you can also pasteurize it or nuke it for 20 mins, but still, you want to get rid of some of the other guys in it
good luck with ur grows. peace ohm
