I just had my roomie pick up some 1qt. Jars for me. I didn't want widemouth becouse I am going to use filter disks and I dont want them to dry out too much. After He got them I began to wonder if the lip on top would cause troubel when I try to remove for birthing ( I am going to use Rye ). They are regular 1qt. Ball jars. I am on a tight budget so please tell me if I should take em back and get different ones. I still got the receipt.

I don't know man...

I have allways used wide-mouth. If your disks fit on the wide-mouth, I would suggest you get those. If not for any other reason, because they are easier to get the cakes out of without injury.

That's the best I can do for you because I havn't used any other type of jar.

hi- im not sure what you mean about the lip... if youre using quarts and rye you wont be birthing as cakes- youll be pouring out colonized rye that youve been shaking out of the jar. so it really doesnt matter for quarts and rye if the lids are regular or wide mouth. wide mouth means you can pour easier (since the openings larger), Stamets in the mushroom cultivator says to use regular mouth quarts b/c they have a lesser chance of contamination that wide mouths do (b/c the opening is smaller). i dont know about that one. regular mouth quarts have worked fine for HQ when she does birdseed.
