    #4001950 - 04/01/05 06:30 PM (18 years, 11 months ago)

hi, am mistaken or is it true that cakes r good to be put on geolite/hydroten but on perlite they should be on verm in jar lid or something similar. im gonna be using geolite next time and ive seen people doing that, but i know its not good with perlite. basically making sure if its ok to just put the cakes on geolite without anything in between them?

I saw in one of the casing TEK's on her that you can use perlite as the bottom layer for a casing. What about that Road? Thanks.

I wouldn't

I don't like bottom casing layers.

They are breeding grounds for contams...IMO

If you're going to use a bottom casing layer, go with straight verm. I used to use about 1/2" inch of wet verm on the bottom with great results. Verm is very, very contam resistant as well. Never even bothered to sterilize/pasteurize the stuff, just tossed it in my casing container. Never had a contam on verm.
