cubes

I was curious, how many different types of mushrooms besides cubes grow on cow dung. Like in the southeast. Not a specific number, but whether there are poison lookalikes that tend to grow on dung also?

I know of at least 3...copelandia cyanescens, psilocybe cubensis, and panaeolus subbalteatus=)I dont belive there are any posionous look alikes that actualy grow on dung, but gallerinas grow on wood that might be under the dung. You can distinguish them by looking closely however and paying attention to area they were picked and spore prints and such.Remeber the ones you are looking for(except for pan sub)ALLWAYS bruise blue=)

the thing about poisonous lookalikes is, what isn't a lookalike to me might be a lookalike to someone less familiar with mushrooms.

so there is no answer to your question. if you really want to be safe, ID your finds properly or give us some pics and a description and we'll help.

Non active mushrooms included? I'd say around 100+, some of which could be potentially poisonous.

There are alot, but the of the main ones growing on dung in the southeast, most are non-fatal to humans, correct?
It is a good idea to get a proper ID first, but i dont want to scare this guy out of even trying to hunt for fear of being poisoned

Well obviously I am a beginner hunter, I checked some feilds but nothing yet. Just wanted a few tips for when they start flourishing. Also can someone explain exactly how the 'sporeprint' works?

Also, I heard the temperature is supposed to stay appove like 60. So then if it gets into the 40s at night then I'm guessing it conditions would still be too cold for an area like that correct?

Its gotta be about 60 degrees usualy for the copes to start friuting.I hear 75 and above for cubes.
A sporeprint(or spore syringe) is kinda like mushroom seeds. The fruitbody drops the spores after the veil breaks and the mushroom starts to age

the temperature needs to be kinda warm before they will start growing, but if it has been warm and then the temperature suddenly drops cubes are pretty hardy and can resist the cold not sure about other species though.

cubes can be very hardy yes, very true-- As for copes- Ive found that they loove to fruit in the 50-60* range- from my experience in October when we got flooded here around the TX/LA coast

I am just so anxious b/c I am experienced with shrooms, just not finding them. Today it was raining all morning and now it is sunny out and about 60degrees. I think I am going to go and drive around and mark some good looking fields on my map. So one last time, has anyone heard of finding cubes in weather dropping to 40s at night but 60s during the day?

those temps arent ideal -  but its def possible if it gets that warm in the daytime-  might stunt the growth, but not to where they dont grow at all  :mushroom2:

where abouts are you located-  in LA somewhere i take it?

MS, actually. I just went on my first hunt. I found 4 mushrooms, definitely all the same kind. But my digital camera is broken so I can't take a picture. They appear to be young bc they are small and they are more of a pod-looking thing, there is no open cap. You can only see the gills if you break it open. I know I have seen pics online before of this type, I just need to find it. As soon as I can I will post a pic.

Well I want to learn as much as possible. I have a feeling these might be what I'm looking for but I'm not sure. I think I might have just been excited.
