poor wheat?
    #4001480 - 04/01/05 06:22 PM (11 years, 8 months ago)

Been trying to case some straight wheat but have gotten bad results.
One of the casings pinned as it should but then all a sudden they
all turned dark and started to rooten. One is growing blobs (aborts)
and another miniature mushrooms.

I have a shitload of this wheat.
Can I use it to spawn straw or will it fuck it up aswell?

As far as I know wheat aint a good grain to use. Maybe your better of spawning the wheat to bulk yes.

According to Stamets book it should work equaly good as rye but X-)
But I'll give it a try as spawn and see how it works out

Hmm, wheat berries? AFOAF has several jars with it going now. Germination and colonizing seem fine, but ohhh well, guess only time will tell.

Are you going to case them as they are? Please report results

I spawned two straw tubs with wheat today :mushroom2:

What was the final word on the wheat berries? Has anyone had any success with them? :bongload:

It would work as spawn for sure if it colonizes them. Fruiting has a major factor of needing water if you fruit directly off the grains. I've found just soaked grains dont have enough water in them to make it through flushing (well). Have to soak and simmer the rye and adding verm helps IME.

Growing with bags, start to finish (including my new grain and substrate prep)
Anyone looking to start bulk tubs/mono tubs/shotgun hybrids? Good tubs to use..
How I do grain (old still good tips)
Turn your closet into a fruiting chamber
Casing layer colonization and overlay
