How do I get cakes to pin?
    #4001093 - 04/01/05 03:04 PM (19 years, 19 days ago)

I have some fully populated cakes that have been sitting there for 6 weeks after populating and are not pining. They did pin in the jars so I tried putting one in the fridge, casing a couple in their jars by scraping off the original layer of dry vermicilite and replacing it with a 50/50 mixture of peet moss and vermicilite, breaking one up and putting it in a sandwich casing of 50/50, putting a light in the perlite floored terarium to heat it up to 90 degrees, etc. They just won't pin. Some are starting to shrink. Any ideas on how to get them to pin? Thanks

90 degrees is too warm for pinning try 74 degrees and if it has been 6 weeks cakes may be a little dry try dunking and rolling.

90F is MUCH too high for fruiting. They prob should fruit but im not amazed that they dont.

Dunk them and fruit @ 70-75.

Actually I shoud have said They grow up at 65 to 75 degrees but when they were fully populated and did not fruit for weeks, I tried keeping them a few days at various temperatures. 90 was the highest. But they sat for a while at 60, 70, 80, 90.

I'll try dunking them and see how that goes.

It's really a shame since I got 24 cakes with no contamination. Just white cylinders that sit there.

I tried talking to them. First I told them I loved them and they were good little cakes and then I told them if they didn't friut I would toss them outside into a pile of horse manure and let them fend for themselves. I am about at that point now.

lower ure temp, dunk for 24 hours then rebirth, should be ok then as long as ure humidity is up to like 90-95% and the lighting cycle is 12/12
