    #4001215 - 04/01/05 03:29 PM (19 years, 9 months ago)

using a reptile rock as a heating pad i was a damn fool and made the mistake of overheating my jars.they werent overheated for very long...8 hours at the most, im not sure what the temp was at but i know it was above the reccomended tempature.ive now stabilized my incubator at 85 degrees but im not sure if my cakes are gonna make it, most of them are nearly done colonization.any thoughts on this? and if they are dead how can i tell?should i just throw them out and start on a new batch if they are dead?...thanks

Depending on how high it went you may have killed the mycellium...but you might as well keep them if you dont know how hot it got. If they dont ever finish, throw em out in the garden.

Patience, time will tell. I had a strawbed heated above 100F for 12 hours, 50% of the myc died.

Just wait...... And see.

Hell no.

Mycelium is tough; unless your temps exceeded 106F for an extended period your jars should be fine. Give them time to finish and if they don't, try injecting a bit of sterile water (in case the substrate dried).
