Coir overlay and that brown "tea" - possible reason for overlaying?

For those of you who have had great success with coir, please disregard this thread. I don't want to hear how it works so well for you. If it does, great; use it and be happy. As for myself, I conducted an experiment showing a split cased tray fruiting like gangbusters on the peat moss side while the coir side was a total overlay flop (judging from the grow logs that flop would be considered a "success" by most on this board). That thread is here:

For those who have noticed that coir likes to overlay like crazy because of its nutrient content, I was wondering if anyone has tried boiling it and then rinsing it of the brown tea it creates? I noticed that when it's boiled, it makes a lot of brown tea-like stuff. Is it possible that this tea is what is causing the coir to colonize and not the coir itself? Has anyone tried to rinse their coir of this and then used it as a casing? If so did the mycelium colonize through it or on it (like normal)?
