well, considering that jurors aren't allowed to read newspapers or view any media during a trial because it may influence their decisions then perhaps the Bible would fall into this category and should be pulled.
Of course it does make sense to have a reference for moral traditions while deciding on a persons life, but if this is the purpose of it's presence then I think that the Talmud/Torah, Quaran, Vedas, Baghavad Gita, etc. should all be available as well.
This would make things a little distracting though if everyone starts consulting subjective religious texts during deliberation...
PULL THE FUCKING BOOK! Jurors should only have their own consciences' and the facts of the case, and a reference to US laws to make decisions from!

in a democracy the individuals should be allowed to have their own ideas and vote for what the believe in. absolutely. I fully endorse you having bibles in your own homes. ill even endorse you having blood orgies in your own home. Your practices are just as important as mine, and no more. But it crosses the line when you try to put your beliefs above others'. The legal system is an entity of the government, and in this society, the government represents the entire population. Therefore by allowing religious doctrine to be brought in to the system is a violation of MY RIGHTS since I am a member of this society too, like it or not.

It's all protocol. An atheist or even an agnostic don't have a "bible", it's the same as bringing the newspaper and swearing it. I'd say ban the bible from the jury room. Can you imagine a doctor swearing by "The anatomical drawings of Leonardo Da Vinci" before performing a surgery ? Da Vinci played an important role on the rebirth of the ancient greek/roman anatomical practices, but his knowledge can be considered insufficient by today standards. The bible simply doesn't fully represent the whole society - the contrary would makes us all christians - but at the same time it is imposed to all individuals within that society.
"Inquisition sinking you With prying minds" ...... "Find it so grim, So true So real"
