problem 1, which is not a problem really, I used the simple pf tek to the T and had enough substrate for 9 jars. that was odd, I did pack them extra loose thought and this might account for it.
My main problem/question. Scenario Under my bed I have my freshly inoculated cakes ( Tuesday night ) the first night I had a cheap heater under my bed set to 775wats My guess is that it had reached temps of 105. i unplugged it in the afternoon ( Wednesday ) and procured a heater w/ a temp control, i set it for 85. which apparently means 110 when the fan is on. I acquired a digi thermometer and the temp between the jars is ~85. the temp w/ the heater on (it says 85, however my thermometer reads 89 between the jars ) First part, Did I fry my spores? B, is it likely that i zapped too much moisture in the jars? C, if too much moisture has been lost, is it possible to inject sterile water in via the inoculation holes w. a low risk of contamination? Thank you s3x3s

well if it reached that high of a temp its possible that you zapped the spores also. it is possible to inject water into the jars use bottles water and sertle syg. also 89 is a little high , 82-85 ideal.
plus its a few degrees warmer inside the Jars.. GL

Ok, I have it stabilized between 86.2 when the heater is on. and 80 when the heater is off.
any guesses how long it will be before I can tell if the spores are zapped? s3x3s

if u mean an air heater, then your cakes are, or will be, dried out. if u do get growth, it will pobably stop b4 the cake is fully colonized. i would exchange the new air heater for a submersable aquarium water heater for around $18 or so.

Would you suggest having it submerged ( im sure this is a stupid question ) and if so, in how much water? would it radiate enough heat if the tank was at 80 degrees? or would I have to have it in a show basin? thank you s3x3s

would a heat bomb suffice, or should i go ahead and go w. the tit? I have 9 pf-teks under my bed. a space of 2ft in height and 1.5 ft in width, depth is 6ft... but doesn't really matter. s3x3s

if this is for the incubater , use a heating Pad or Seed mat. Maintains constant temps and its not a Freaking Heater.. JUSt try that or like they says , Tub in tub always works , Also . you will know spores are toast when nothing grows.

Yeah, use an under-the-tank heating pad stuck to the bottom of a rubbermaid container. Simple. This is what I do and it's been working great! Temps are almost perfect ~80F and it fits nicely into my nightstand drawer.

can anyone provide a TiT-tek link, I cant find it anywhere. Thanks. s3x3s PS It looks like C1 is contaminated, ( day 2 ) and C4, C6, C8 may possibly be showing signs of myc growth.
