    #3997931 - 04/01/05 12:15 AM (11 years, 8 months ago)

Hey, I was just wondering if anyone knows of any type of psilocybe Mushrooms that grow wild in Wisconsin.. The reason for this is my family owns a farm with around 1000 acres and a good 500 of that is pasture(cow shit galore) Thanks alot!

theres a tek in hunting that lists by state. Be careful when you go picking, **always** ID first.

Curecat,

It isn't that the noobs are waking the dead, but every thread has at the bottom of the page a list of related threads. That is where all the dead old threads keep being opened up from.

And so far no mycologists have found liberty caps in Wiscosin or Minnesota or Michigan for that matter.

If someone did then lets see the photographs

Because I have been here 9 years at the site and no one yet has posted any liberty cap images from Wisconsin.

mj

mjshroomer,
I am aware that most old threads are found from the related threads at the bottom of the page... That doesn't change the fact that people (usually new users) are resurrecting(waking) old(dead) threads.

Wisconsin lib season - year round. They find them popping up through the snow - during droughts, middle of summer you name it. It's liberty cap paradise up there.

I imagine that it is in some parts of Wisconsin. Right latitude, any wet valley with cows and there is going to be a good chance that there are libs.

Lots of lakes too, kicking the humidity up in places.

My apologise everyone, recently i've been looking around the hunting fourm and i've been getting myself all stoked for the warmer season and looking for new patches, then I look out my windows and see that it is a while away. :-( I'm sorry I will try and pay more attention in the future.

mj,
I'm thinking back to images in my head of hunting last summer but not having any clue how to identify at that time. Now having what I think a little bit more of an understanding on how to indentify an active mushshroom I think of seeing p. semilanceata eveywhere I looked last year. Imagine this, a buddie of mine has a woods with wild cows (or atleast thats what he calls them) but either way the whole pasture they rome is wooded, scattered grass, with poo poo/mud all around. Conditions made me think libertys, MJ I believe I read an old post of yours saying you were familiar to the devils lake area, are there any specific active mushrooms you can think to look for? Please don't tell I can't spend this next season in the woods having a magical time. :-(

wowitch you are right but the whole area was covered with mushrooms. I understand a good amount of them were unactive/inactive? if any at all, I assumed if WI could grow anything active it would be the p. semi.

well ive found actives one place in wisconsin at a farm in adams county that is really well known it houses over 4,000 cows and imports them from down south. I found them a two seasons back and have yet to get back there. Its a huge huge huge farm and has piles of shit. They recycle there shit on site so they collect it all and keep a portion of it heated.

Hi there,
mjshroomer here with some Wisconsin info on shrooms.

I guess the season is now over .

You can wait till next fall. Try the pastures. There are reports of people picking liberty caps ther ein Wisconsin.

Another species may be Gymnopilus and several variations. This latter shroom grows on dead tree truncks and woody debris such as mulch with bark.

Panaeolus subbalteatus is a speing shroom and grows from manure or rotted hay. Common at riding stables and racetracks and in manure paddies in pastures and meadows.

I grew up in Baraboo at Devils Lake State Park.
