Who do you look up to?
    #3995140 - 03/31/05 02:12 PM (11 years, 8 months ago)

1816 His family was forced out of their home. He had to work to support them.
1818 His mother died.
1831 Failed in business.
1832 Ran for state legislature - lost.
l832 Also lost his job - wanted to go to law school but couldn't get in.
1833 Borrowed some money from a friend to begin a business and by the end of the year he was bankrupt. He spent the next 17 years of his life paying off this debt.
1834 Ran for state legislature again - won.
1835 Was engaged to be married, sweetheart died and his heart was broken.
1836 Had a total nervous breakdown and was in bed for six months.
1838 Sought to become speaker of the state legislature - defeated.
1840 Sought to become elector - defeated.
1843 Ran for Congress - lost.
1846 Ran for Congress again - this time he won - went to Washington and did a good job.
1848 Ran for re-election to Congress - lost.
1849 Sought the job of land officer in his home state - rejected.
1854 Ran for Senate of the United States - lost.
1856 Sought the Vice-Presidential nomination at his party's national convention - get less than 100 votes.
1858 Ran for U.S. Senate again - again he lost.
1860 Elected president of the United States.

This man was Abraham Lincoln, and is truly a genuine champion in every sense of the word.

It brings a tear to my eye to think about the immensely beautiful and deep person he was, that withstood such shattering challenges with awe-inspiring persistence and courage.
I cannot think of any other well-known figure in history that I would rather devote my utmost sincere respects to, than the ole' "Honest Abe".

Do you have someone that you'd like to mention?

Someone taller then me.

 Don't need a resource outside my own self to guide my path.

-Abraham Lincoln was also taking a supplemeant called "blue mass" I believe that's the name... Anyhow, the point of the matter is that it is also believed that he suffered from Mercury poisoning as a result of that, hence the talk about evil/crazy Lincoln. He stopped taking the supplemants shortly before becoming president.

I believe he took them for depression, it's been a few years since I did a report about him (10+).

Imaging that a pill popping President!! Additionally, Shrub's (a small bush) crew is all wired on Ambian (sp?).

My girlfriend. I don't look up to her, but at her. She is the best, wisest, most loving person I know personally. :mushroom2:

Which begs the question:

How tall was Jesus?

To you, but others found his actions to be so despicable so as to murder him.

Irwin Allen Ginsberg is my role model

Born 1926, died 1997. In between all that he lived the life of a prophet.

Did you ever hear the one about the guy that sent a Barbie to the Smithsonian Museum as a major archaelogical find? (He dug it up from his back yard.) I am not sure it the guy was deranged or the story was an internet joke. Funny either way.

Call me egotistic but, myself... and some fictional characters.

There's no person living on this planet that I would look to as a role model.

I disagree about the idea that nobody but yourself is worth looking up to. You get better at something by learning from the best. And not that life is something to "get better at" but there are a lot of great people out there.

I'd have to say Richie Hawtin is the man.

And Albert Hoffman, Aldous Huxley, Humphrey Osmond..umm...that pilot guy. The whole LSD crew. They have my respect.

Sure, I look to other people to learn certain things, but I wouldn't model my whole lifestyle after theirs. I take what I like from them, and integrate it into my personality. A little from here, a little from there. For example, I make music as a hobby. I may get inspiired by someone else's style which I may attempt to mimic or integrate into a song I'm writing. But that doesn't mean I'm going to idolize the person or praise them. I'll give them props for making a cool tune that inspired me and that's it.
