Id cactus
    #3971819 - 03/26/05 09:11 AM (19 years, 6 days ago)

Hi everyone,

I just bought this cactus, without an id tag. I bought it because it looked like a trichocereus pachanoi, but I'm not sure. At all! Could someone help me with this one?

Thx!

If you click the pic and then expand it when you see the expand icon, you can have a more focussed view on the spines, slightly blurry but it should do.
I heard somewhere else that it could be a cereus peruvianus.. It seems to me that it resembles more a trichocereus peruv., and that's what I'm hoping it to be.

Ps most of the time the spineknods have 7 or a bit less needles. Maybe this helps for id? The cactus also has 7 ribs.

Rib number isn't very useful for identification, cacti can gain or lose ribs as they please. Spine number and distribution seems to be a much better way to identify cacti...
To my eyes, it looks like a peruvianus, but I'm no expert.

What do you mean with 'distribution', Openminded?

He probably means the way in which the spines are distributed around the areole. Most trichos usuall have a central spine with 4-6 or 7 more radiating around it.

Yes it is a Trichocereus, probably a macrogonus.. or perhaps a peruvianoid.

I checked some pics and it does look like a Trich Macr. So my next question is, as I can't find much info on this cactus: Is it potent?

verry nice cactus looks to me like it is close to a san perto frum peru or a porivan toarch or it could be some kind of hybred between san perdo and porivan toarch but hay what do I know
