WBS Colonization -=-= A question
    #3992468 - 03/30/05 08:58 PM (19 years, 3 days ago)

inoculated some jars of wild bird seed with mexicube spore.
Had awesome mycelial growth for the first week. Almost all of my 30+ jars were over 50% colonized. My friend insisted that we shake them for a second time to spread the mycium out and allow recovery. Now many of the jars seem to have more liquid or brownish liquid residue on the sides of the jars and the mycium doesnt seem to be doing to well.
Im wondering if shaking it can destroy the colonization process? or is it just that my mexicubes enjoy a lower colonization temp and I had the temp too high? (79-82 degrees)
Any info would be great. Thanks

One shake at around 15 / 20 % colonized, is all I do.

More shaking simply delays & sometimes - stalls the colonization process.

Shaking batters the myc & it takes time to recover.

The more battering, the more recovery time required.

To much battering & sometimes - they don't recover.

The path is set - anyway. One cannot undo a shaking.

Only thing you can do is watch & wait.

They might do better & might not.

Only - time will tell.

No. Shaking jars at around 25% colonization works great to speed things up. Your problem was the grains were a little too wet. Now it sounds like you've gotten bacillus (wet spot) bacteria. I'd just toss them. Make sure your draining your grains really good after the soak. I let mine drain in collander for an hour. Then pc for 90-105 minutes @ 15psi.

You should prolly wait a week or so first to see if colonization picks up.

Brownish liquid residue is wet spot bacteria. Don't get your hopes up, launch'em into the trash.

thanks a bunch
Hopefully the bacillus isnt the case. but i will def. hang onto them and see if the mycium recovers. And if it doesnt, i shall break my friends hands for touching my jars....

Ok so... Lost about 27 out of 30 jars. lol
I did manage to birth 3. Cased two and using cake method on one. Casing is doing well up to this point. Got mycium growth in spots through the casing layer, patched and dropped temp in chmaber. Fingers crossed on pinning and fruiting!
