Your greatest regret in life
    #3991748 - 03/30/05 08:11 PM (11 years, 8 months ago)

Now, many of you people are much younger than I am and most likely have not given it a lot of thought, but as this 46 year old drug ravished body & mind reaches what will "hopefully" be the last third of it's existence, I sometimes do think about things I regret.

Not too often, because it's not my way to dwell upon the negative in life, I'm truly blessed if there is such a thing, if not I'm very lucky, I don't have the answer to that one either.

I do wish I learned to play a musical instrument, preferably a string instrument........I would truly love to be picking a bluegrass tune or two!

as you i don't really like to regret things, because after all everything i did made me the person i am now... what's in the past is in the past, you learn from it and move on... but if there is one thing i often wish i hadn't done it's DXM...

I'm still too young to regret anything

I regret the fact that I didn't say bye to my cousin the last time I saw him before he died, but that's really a minor thing.

It's really never too late to learn Ripple!
Now that may sound cliche.. and you may say yeah.. coming from a 23 year old who's been playing for 10 years.. but seriously. I played bass for a long time before I ever even thought about touching a guitar.. now I regret not learning it and piano and a ton of other things a long time ago. But I've been playing guitar for 2 or 3 years now and I'm slowly picking stuff up.. indeed.. bluegrass is my next venture. I'll learn a few bluegrass scales and teach you in ohio how does that sound?

I'm a bit younger than you, but that's been kinda a dream of mine too. I've always liked bluegrass and I think it'd be cool to learn the banjo.

I wish I had been forced to play piano from like 8 years old, so that I would be good at it by now...
Also I wish I had been more relaxed in high school; specially since now I've got to work my brains out now.

I suppose i regret quitting keyboard classes when i was 5 because i could really use the music theory knowledge to combine with my 6 years worth of practical bass guitar skills

I can't really think of anything I truly regret.  I don't even think I'd change anything that I've done.  There have been low points and bad times and stupid actions on my part, but all these things have molded me into the person I am today.  Without any one of those experiences I might not have learned a valuable lesson and therefore I might not be as happy today.

banjo would be my first choice too although I understand it's very difficult, I guess i would be happy just knowing a few chords on the guitar.

Fiddle is my second favorite string instrument followed by Mandolin.

My dad played mandolin (RIP Dad) and I just loved to listen to him play and sing old traditional favorites.

Mandolin is awesome! I just got back from springfest day before yesterday and there was tons of pickers out there jamming on bluegrass.. a couple times I was wandering and stumbled across a couple of them jamming out on double bass, guitar, banjo, mandolin, steel guitar.. and joined in on some djembe.. man that was amazing!

I'm actually looking at a bunch of bluegrass song tablature right now online.. this stuff doesn't look all that hard.. I can learn it.

cool.. from what I've picked up so far.. bluegrass isn't too hard at all, for me anyway. I'm not the greatest music teacher in the world but I'll do my best. Next I will master.. the fiddle.. the harp.. the mandolin.. and the xylophone!!! Muwahahahahaha

But really, if you want to play a stringed instrument all you have to do is start doing it! I took music lessons (sax) when I was very young so I knew how to read music and stuff but once I picked up a bass guitar I knew nothing.. I started from scratch and taught myself how to play, and just jammed with friends, picked things up and learned wherever I could, and just kept practicing, and eventually got pretty good. It's not so much what you know as much as it is actual playing. All the knowledge of guitar in the world will do you no good if you can't apply it with your fingers. So the key is practice, playing, experimentation.

My biggest regret in life? Treating some of my family and friends the way I have in the past. If I could go back and change it all I would do things a lot differently.
