Newbie difficulties

I have tried twice with limited success. I have been using the PF-TeK (from this site) and very carefully following the instruction for the mix of ingredients, temps, etc. The first attempt suffered from mold, and I increased my attentiveness to cleanliness. My second attempt had no mold, but the spores simply did not colonize. I uses spore syringes, and 5 jars with 4 squirts in each, and had only two of of the 20 injections produce anything. I want to try again, but am not sure what to change.... some questions.
Do the spore syringes go bad? I purchased these several weeks earlier (for the first attempt) and did not refigerate. How long should they last? Should I refigerate or use right away next time?
I purchased the spores from SporeWorks. Is it possible to just get a bad batch? has this happened to anyone?
Any other suggestions? as I said I was quite careful about moisture, and temperatures so I do not think that was the problem.
any suggestions will be appreciated. Thanks, Rick

Give everyone in great detail what you did, and what you are seeing. Setup type, procedures, Incubating Setup, Temps, etc.. etc.. Lots of Devils in the Details here..

We need the details of your technique. How you prepped and sterilized your jars, how you inoculated, incubated, etc.
Vendors have sent faulty syringes, but 99% of the time the problem lies with the inexperienced cultivator.

Yes, I was not relating the exact details since I had religously followed the directions from this site. I used 5 1 pint jars with brown rice and vermiculite with equal flour and water and double the vermiculite. I sterlized in a pressure cooker for 60 minutes in a pressure cooker at 15psi and let cool over night. I injected 1 cc through four separate holes towards the edge of the jar and below the half inch of pure vermiculite I left on top.
I placed the jars in a plastic tub set in a second plastic tub with water. I left an aquarium heater in the water set at 85 degrees. I also used a digital thermometer to monitor the temps which remained between 80 and 85 degrees. I left the jars for more than three weeks (no mold) before concluding that not much was happening.
What did I do wrong? Thanks, Rick

Hmmmm... well, I think so. certainly will next time. If my technique looks sound I will just try again. Does anyone know the shelf-life of unrefigerated spore syringes? what ever the case I am ordering free syringes for try number three.

Hard to remember to relay all the details. I used lids with drilled holes and two layers of foil. I pressure cooked the jars with the two layers. Removed the first layer and injected the spores and then replaced the second layer, but did not secure in an air-tight manner. So I have one later with syringe holes that is secured with rubber bands, and then the second layer has no holes and just sets on top. Thanks!!

The biggest problem noobs seem to have is with water content. This is because different grades of verm will hold different amounts of water. Try following the PF tek listed here. It compensates for different grades of verm.

uh..... I guess I was not remembering right. I used a 10 cc syringe for 5 jars and had about 30 to 40% left over, which implies that I used slightly more than 1cc per jar. I did not think water content was that crucial so I will pay more attention to this.

The "mold" was a mixture of fuzzy white and green. It did not look like mycelium. I was not careful about cleaning the substrate away from the edge at the top of the jar, and did not leave the half inch of dry verm at the top, so I am guessing that the mold had an entry way into the jar... I was able to cure this with the second attempt, and did manage to fruit about 5 caps total from the one squirt that colonized. Not what I was hoping for.... sounds like water content is the key.
