Growing Shrooms, quick easy question.

Im using the PF-Tek for simple minds guide.
It says to fruit in trashcans with a see through covering on the top, moistening the perlite/vercum. when it needs it.
My question is, can I grow the shrooms in complete darkness, or does there need to be some light?

Shrooms will grow in darkness. A bit of light during the fruiting phase helps them discern which way is up. If your shrooms begin to grow downward into the substrate, and then die and rot, you'll quickly contaminate the entire mess.

i think you'll have a really hard time pinning them WITHOUT light.
i use a compact florescent on a 12/12 timer (on/off). it's cheap to run and only cost about $5 to build.
if i were you, i'd look up the poor man's pod here on the boards. it's a cheap fruiting chamber that works well. i'd reccomend geolite or lava rocks for the bottom of the poor man's pod... perlite's kinda messy in there and the air pump won't really bubble as well.
EDIT:
I found the link for you 'cuz i'm a nice guy. http://www.shroomery.org/forums/showflat.php/Cat/0/Number/1303334/page//fpart/1/vc/1
there you go buddy, hope that helps.

Anyone reading this thread could maybe comment for me, but I am looking at the poorman's pod mentioned in the above post by ZeroArmy. You fill the water to just below the lava rocks, and then you pump air into the water to make it bubble and keep the cakes moist etc? Is that the idea?
