We are always talking about Mescaline as the active ingredient of cacti, but these other two, pellotine and anhaladine are the two most rich chemicals in the cacti surpassing content of the mescaline by about 90%.

My experience is that they are calming and empathic, though not hallucinatory or psychedelic. Nonetheless, my experience is that non threshhold doses of cacti, where the mescaline isn't high enough in concentration to make one trip, still those doses are therapeutic and very calming to the nerves with some slight stoned edge. What say you all? :thumbup:

ive always had this idea that each plant makes a soup of a perfect mixture to effect us . and most of the chemicals we are probably completely unaware of. this is the big difference i see in synthesizing one chemical as opposed to ingesting a plant with possibly hundreds (plus the right amount of water/matter).. natures finest mmm mm

I was under the impression that trichocereus species were quite clean in their chemical makeup? Sure they still have loads of different alkaloids, but I thought it was like 60%+ mescaline.
I know peyote is a lot more mixed though. It would be interesting to run a parrallel TLC on the alkaloid extracts from peyote and san pedro...

Nah, Trichs are like 1 to 3 % mescaline and mostly pellotine which is a mild tranq.

do you think its possible that the inactive compounds are still reacting with the alkaloid itself in some way .as opposed to one synthesized isolated compound

I always heard or read that the alkaloids work together nicely. So if this is true then I wonder maybe with people who have done enough a/b extractions that there is a difference between just pure mescalino and maybe mescalino with the other alkaloids.
