Today's the day...
    #3980506 - 03/28/05 04:12 PM (12 years, 5 months ago)

I have to drop my cats off tonight at their new home.  I'm beginning to panick, wondering if I'm ever going to see them again, or play with them again.  I'm glad that they're going to a good home, with children and lots of animals, but I think it just hit me that as of tonight they're not going to be my cats anymore.  :frown:  Has anyone else had to deal with giving up a pet?  I dont know how I'm going to handle this....

If by giving him up, you mean having him put to sleep, then yes.

Well I'm not putting them to sleep, but I would imagine that that would be even harder. I'm moving out of my apartment, and I can't bring my cats with me, so I had to find them another home.

I'm gonna try not to cry...especially in front of the people who are taking them, and their children.  I just hope they're happy there, and that they get along with the 3 other cats and the dog.  I'm sure I'll be a mess on the way home though :frown:  and no, being sad over a turtle doesn't sound silly...my first pet was a turtle names shelly and when he died I was a mess.  Turtles are cool.

when I was in like 4th grade, I had a guinea pig that i had had for like 5 years, named Wilbur, after the pig from Charlotte's Web.  He was old, and not in good shape, and apparently one day while I was at school he took a turn for the worse.  That day, I had a solo in the chorus, in front of my school and all the parents and stuff.  My mother pulled me aside right before the performance and told me Wilbur was dying.  Probably not the brightest idea on her part.  I was choking back tears through my whole solo, and as soon as I was done, we raced home, to be there for my poor little guinea pig.  I held him and cried while he took his last breaths.  My stepfather was the commissioner of the cemetaries in my town at that time, so he went and got me an official grave marker, on which we wrote "Wilbur".  We buried him in the back yard.  Shortly after that we sold the house, and got a call about a week after the new owners moved in, wondering who was buried in the back yard by the name of wilbur

Well, it depends.  If there are kids in the family and they're attached to it, that wouldn't be very nice, to take it back.  When I spoke to this family who's taking my cats, I left it with them that if when I buy a house in a year or so, they're not opposed to me taking my cats back, I'll do it.  So hopefully that will all work out.  If not, I'm getting a kitten as soon as I move in
