First Casing Pins
    #3977831 - 03/27/05 09:18 PM (19 years, 24 days ago)

This is my casing today, day 4 in fruiting chamber. Have a couple shrooms going but not a lot of pins. Waiting for their arrival.

This is day 3 in the fruiting chamber. Temp. 76 deg. , 12/12 light , and about 96% humidity. Constant air exchange.

This is Day 2 .

And Day 1 .

Is everything preceding normally? Is it a little too moist? Thanks for any input.
Peace,Love,Happiness and Harmony.

Looks good but you should lower the humidity to at least 90. What casing mix are you using?

LOOKS PERFECT.

You might drop humidity to 85/86, or not. Cased substrates don't need 96% rh. Cakes do.

Primordia..... soon

I'm a noob, so I may be wrong, someone correct me if I am, but it looks like you could use a patch or two. Is that 3 days in the FC or three days after making the casing, or both?

Neither. That's 3 days in the fruiting chamber. Spent 3 1/2 in incubator, so it was cased about a week ago.

Thanks Agar. Right now I have no more than a 1/2 inch damp perlite. Was following the opinion that high humidity is good until actual pinning. Will dump the perlite in one of my other chambers. Wish me luck.

Follow up question: Let's say someone had a casing in their martha. And the humidity is like a million percent, that's bad right?  Would turning off the sonic humidifier for a night be a good idea, or another bad thing? Or would it be better just to put the SH on a 1/1 hour timer or a 1/2 (on/off) timer? TIA

I thought most people use their ultra-sonic humidifiers 15 minutes every 2 hours or so.

Yea, well despite the repeated advice of everyone on this forum, i have never seen a 15 minute timer in any store near me and i cant bring myself to by one online. And DERRRR, i forgot to mention that these casings in said hypothetical situation would be showing a lot of mycelia  and no pins yet. Gin makes me forget things. Ahhhh....giiiiinnnn.

Yes that TEK would be quite handy. I need a timer.

Also check your local hydro store, thats where i got mine. And yes hippie, i suggest keeping the RH at 95-100 until pinning, i usually keep it at that the whole way through, haven't found it to make much of a difference except that mycellium grows up the mushrooms and i kinda like that.

I'd say you have you waterv delivery down very well with this one as long as there is no pooling in the bottom of that tray  A note on your RH, pins/shrooms increase in size mainly through transpiration so lowering the RH down to 85-90% with plenty of fresh air exchanges will give you the absolute perfect fruiting environment. 80% RH and fresh plenty of FAE may pose a problem with excessive evaporation which can result in some overlay conditions. Just some food for thought. GL
