bunch of crap installed to my comp...?
    #3976268 - 03/27/05 04:21 PM (11 years, 8 months ago)

so today i wakke up and go to favourites and there is soem porn and a bunch of other random links added to my favs list. there is also a program installed on my computer. i have not opened any websites or anythign other than this site, e-mail, and a couple hiking sites. i certainly did not download anythign from tehre or accept any pop up window things.

any idea how the hell i can get rid of this crap? i am running norton and its doing jack, ive used ad aware to get rid of spyware and i have gone through the folders to see if there are any that dont look right to me. i keep deleting them from favs and they keep coming back.

i cant say as i really care if they are there, but it is starting to piss me off.

any ideas?

all teh red are new additions that i cant keep deleted.

Along with adaware, you should use spybot search and destroy and a squared.

will simply using firefox instead of ie (while still having IE on teh comp) change much? ill download now either way and decide to use it once i leanr more.

is spybot free?

i have found more things liek this now that ive looked harder. basically its all financial (loans/interest rates) and porn.

i downloaded all teh windows updates now and it said it detected some melicious files and such. so now i am going through their spyware thigns as well.

im using this link
http://www.msnhelper.net/search.php?pin=12345

you think this will help or add to teh problems?

thanks for the help, muchly appreciated!

yes, stop using IE. im sure you've heard people say this, no? avoid IE - it is riddled with security holes that allow that nonsense - IE is the reason you have this problem. use firefox or opera. they are 100x better.

spybot is free

umm, I dont know what this msnhelper.net place is - seems fishy man. why would microsoft use a .net address...looks like you're being fooled...

dude just use

spybot: http://www.safer-networking.org/en/index.html
ad-aware: http://www.lavasoftusa.com/software/adaware
spywareblaster: http://www.javacoolsoftware.com/spywareblaster.html
AVG Free: http://www.grisoft.com/doc/40/lng/ww
a squared: http://www.emsisoft.com/en/software/free/

browsers to use: www.mozilla.org & www.opera.com

dont use IE
and dont pay for anything.

I find PestPatrol removes the most stuff from my comp.

I use Ad-Aware and spybot too...
