Self-Authentification
    #3975583 - 03/27/05 11:33 AM (12 years, 8 months ago)

I have been told an uncountable number of times that the Bible is true because the Bible says that it is true and it is the word of God because it says so. Then it logically follows that if I write a book that says it is true, it MUST BE!

"No, not just any words are true, but the scriptures are ALWAYS true, without error and providentially preserved. All true believers know this to be so, since God Himself has taught them this."

Yup, just an hour ago on the Easter thread.

Yea, obviously that is not a valid argument, perhapse those people didn't have logic as a subject in highschool. I think everyone should have it.

I actually had a guy try to start a physical fight in college during a debate similiar to the above...

Random Guy: blah blah blah
Seuss: So why do you think that is true?
Random Guy: Because it says so in the Bible. Don't you read the bible?
Seuss: I don't read fiction.

... it went downhill from there.

It's almost odd that we don't already have this in schools - at least mandatorily. Instead, we have foriegn language.
It would be nice to see Logic, Psychology and Finance become mandatory subjects in school someday.

modern society is integrating religion into all levels of social structure at an alarmingly advancing rate to the detriment of international, national and and personal developments and freedoms.

education especially should be public and free of religion, and the meddling and controling habits of unprofessional educators.

private and parochial schools are weakenning civilization by:

1) separating young people deriving from different social classes
2) separating young people deriving from different cultures
3) enticing good teachers away from public schools where the most good can be done.
4) removing interested and enriching parents from the pool in public parent teacher organizations.

it defies logic.
columbine will be the rule and not the exception
logic in schools is great
stopping separate schools even better
also the right to bear arms has got to go, it is another artificial pressure towards fortressing and fear based management of education.

that is my easter politics - risen from the dead.

"education especially should be public and free of religion, and the meddling and controling habits of unprofessional educators."

This goal has been realized, at least in the US it has. I live in the Bible belt where fundamentalist religion is quite prevalent, and my work with the public school systems has led me to the conclusion that religion is kept firmly out of public school.

hey swami why is every post in here bashing the bible and christianity you get beat up by one or touched by a preist or something?

1. Every post? Isn't lying against Biblical teachings?

2. What exactly did I bash? I made a true statement that Bible proponents use the Bible to verify it's authenticity.

3. How did your molestation comment add any substance to the converstion? Personalizations are discouraged in S&P.

Dont get me wrong here I dont agree with everything in the Bible but everybodys always bashing everybody
Everybody? Always?

kinda makes you no better then the judgemental religeous KOO KOO wack jobs.
How do other's posts reflect on me?

(Aside to viewers: Note how the poster end his sentence with ACTUAL bashing. Go figure!)

I have Christian beleifs
But fail to follow the part about speaking the truth.

Also? There's that whole: "Thou Shalt not Judge Lest YE be Judged" thing.

It's amazing how many Christians seem to forget that one.

Then you probably live in one of those states where the schools aren't allowed to speak of or to teach Darwin's theory of eolution...how the hell can you affirm that religion is kept out of school under those circumstances?
And let's not even mention the "I pledge Allegiance...under God" thing...

Ya same here. psychology and logic is categorized under "philosophy" here, and philosophy is a mandatory subject in Senior class.
I must say, i took a philosophy course in high school in the US, and it was of such weak quality compared to the french philosophy class.

And Skorp, i don't think foreign languages should be neglected.

Our philosophy was a separate subject in which we studied classic philosophers and their teachings

In logic we were learning about silogisms, induction, deduction, definitions, cathegories, learned logical symbols etc.

Well in psychology, that's obvious, it's about psychology

Yeah, whats the deal with that? I think its funny how people always seem to confuse the things they read as true without truly trying to figure out whether it is or not...

I think one of the alternatives is to really dig in and examine yourself, whereas the other is just the acceptance of the surface quality of what "might" be real, or truthful. Another one is to just blindly believe anything that is presented to you, to take it without care and to digest a seemingly useless piece of knowledge.

Without trying to understand the truth, how can there be knowledge, especially when it comes to religion! How can anyone expect to live up to the virtues that are presented within... the bible, without having really tried to understand and validate its claims?

Most people are just way out of context in my opinion, and they cant seem to focus on the core of what they are saying they believe because of what they have been told as truth as uttered out of a book written many years ago by people in a completely different time and place.

advice... stop caring what bible thumpers choose to believe. seriously. just try not to give a shit. many of them are absolutely ridiculous with there logic and justifications. But the problem is theres billions of them and they keep popping up like mold. so let them think what they wanna think and save yourself the insanity of trying to force some logic into a non logical mind. peace
